My Origin Story

First of all, welcome to my blog! I’d like to share my journey as a writer, going from the promise of an idea to (hopefully) holding a published book in my hands.

Along the way, I’d like to talk about my own creative processes. This includes any tips and tricks that I’ve acquired along the way, what’s worked for me, what hasn’t, my mistakes, and discoveries. I’d also like to share a bit about some of my travels, and how the places I’ve visited have inspired my own storytelling.

As a child, I loved fantasy to the point of near obsession. Nearly every shirt I wore had a dragon on it, and I’d often explore the woods behind my house, pretending to go on grand adventures. One time, I found a quartz crystal by a nearby waterfall, certain it harbored magical properties.

Naturally, I read a lot of fantasy books, and eventually wanted to create my own fantasy worlds. So, I brought the adventures from the forest to the page with my first manuscript when I was eight. I continued to write throughout high school but dropped off once I entered college and upon graduating, getting a job to pay the bills became a top priority.

However, my passion for storytelling never waned, and I often felt the itch to dive back into crafting my own fantasy world. This leads me to my first serious manuscript. It’s been a long road from a vague idea of a fantasy world centered around magic in an early 20th century inspired setting to a layered story with characters, a story and prose that doesn’t make me want to pull my hair out when reading.

My first draft of my first serious manuscript

At the time of writing this, I’ve been through about five rewrites and edits and have taken in lots of outside feedback, from friends and writers outside my social circle. At times, it’s been a real struggle, and even a downright chore, but even transforming this idea to a tangible manuscript has been super rewarding, and I hope to push it into the next step.

While I don’t want to give too much of the book away here (I do want people to read it eventually!), I would like to use it as the lens for my journey to eventually being an author.

Looking forward to bringing you all along for the ride!
